The Internet has generated a series of new opportunities and issues for policymakers, impacting everything from copyright to competition. As a company that started out in academia, we’ve long supported some of the world’s best computer science researchers in universities. Its non-wipe so by definition it will not wipe anything, keep all applications, contacts and everything or will not lose them off from the device. Like for example, if your SGS2 have XXKG1 installed on it and already rooted.You will just need to re-root it after flashing the firmware.

Samsung develops Tizen Mobile Lite for low end phones

The Tizen operating system is giving a lot to talk about, and that you do not expect the first smartphones with this platform until at least January or February 2014. This project , a collaboration between Samsung and Intel , is an operating system based on Linux, open source , which could be the most promising alternative to Android in the future, or is this what is intended . However Tizen is intended as a larger system , in the sense that it would be adapted to all kinds of products, not just smartphones , but also others such as televisions or cameras. Samsung has already launched NX300M camera with a special version of Tizen , but we will not see the full potential of the platform up until the arrival of the first smartphone. Tizen is going to be difficult to compete with the giant Android, but the idea of ​​expanding to other products would be an advantage . In addition , the system would also be available in a Lite version focused especially low-end devices , a segment where the Android user experience is not too good .

Tizen would be available in all types of smartphones , from which would benefit from more advanced components to those with more modest technical profile . The idea is ambitious , as it starts from scratch to create a range that meets the needs of all types of customers exactly what they own brands like Samsung or Nokia , you have a catalog that covers all ranges and sub - ranges imaginable . Also Tizen Mobile Lite might work very well in emerging markets like India or Africa , because we are talking about terminal also very economical.

Game Review My Country

I have always been a sucker for a good tycoon type game - these are, in my opinion, the best time wasters out there! Ive been looking for a decent one for a while now - I tried out Mini Tower on the wifes iPhone, but that didnt have any challenge to it at all.

A few days ago, though, I installed My Country on my Galaxy S2. At first I thought it was pretty much the same as Mini Tower, but after playing it for a while, I saw that this little game had much more depth (even though the challenge factor is still a bit on the low side...).

You have things like population, power and the environment that needs to get looked after. For population there are various residential building that you can build, for power you can build, for example, windmill generators, and for the environment theres all kinds of trees and parks that you can build. In the meantime, you can upgrade most of the buildings, and the commercial ones you can customize how youd like to upgrade them.

Each building produces income and experience points (and sometimes items needed to hire "professionals" with), which you must collect on a regular basis. As you gain XP, you level up, which unlocks even more building. Furthermore, your game map is not fully unlocked when you start, so you can end up with quite a big city.

As you go along and get more people and your environment values go up, your village also gets upgraded to a better status (which also unlocks even more buildings and items...).

The game also gives you certain objectives, which you can complete to get a money and XP bonus. Building commercial buildings isnt just a case of actually building them, and theyre there - most of them need "professionals" that you hire that the building needs before it can start operating. Professionals can only be hired if you have collected the necessary items for each one - these items drop from the various actions you perform in the game, like collecting income, building new buildings, or upgrading existing ones.

I have only played it for a few days, but I do find myself coming back to this game every time. One thing that is a little annoying is that when collecting income and XP, you need to tap A LOT to get through everything, I can see how this is going to become a huge pain, especially when you have a gigantic city on your hands. There is, however, an option to collect all the income on the screen, but this costs some of the in-game currency, that you must buy with real money (which I havent done yet...). You do start the game with a few bucks, which helps to get you going a bit quicker in the beginning.

But, for now, its a very fun tycoon game, and anybody whos a fan of the genre will have lots of fun with My Country.

Best of all, its FREE! Gotta love the dedicated developers putting in all their time and effort to produce these games!

It got me thinking how fast Internet has gotten today, especially mobile internet. In 2006, I got a Globe Visibility internet connection from Globe Telecom, which has a maximum theoretical speed of 1.8 Mbps, and would hit 1.4 Mbps.

Today, I can get those speeds from my mobile phone.

The fastest mobile internet products available today is many time faster than that. SMART Communications has its prepaid only SMART Rocket which promises as mush as 12 Mbps. The SMART Rocket kit, which include a modem and a sim will cost you Php3,995. Use will cost you Php10 per thirty minutes. According to Yugatech, default charging will revert to Php200 per 180MB after September 30, 2011. You can also subscribe to Smart Always On Plans on the Rocket. It is still not clear if you can subscribe to Smart Communications Unlimited plans. Given the plans this would be more suitable for a dedicated mobile connection.

SMART Rocket - 4G HSPA+

Coverage is still limited, and since it is wireless technology, actually speeds may be reduced by obstructions between your device and the 4G tower. A list of the covered areas at this time can be found here.

Globe Tatoo Tonino Lamborghini - 10 Mbps 4G HSPA+

Globe Telecommunications offers its Globes 10 Mbps Tattoo Tonino Lamborghini. Globe high speed package is a postpaid only plan. You get the sim and modem free for a monthly of Php2,199 under a two year contract. Since the plan is unlimited, I suspect many users may use this as their mobile and home connection. I am not sure if that is a good thing. Five years ago, some Globe Visibility were being used to power internet cafes causing network slowdown. But Globe Telecom has been down this road before so I think they know what they are doing. Mobile Internet from Globe Telecom across all plans tends to cost a bit less than mobile internet from SMART Communications.

How long can you resist before getting a 10 Mbps or faster mobile connection? Pick your own poison, but either way, the faster net is here.

Things Needs to Avoid in Handling Samsung Galaxy Ace

Do not install ROM Manager for Galaxy Ace

However , it doesnt support Galaxy Ace yet. It perfectly works on other Android Platforms but not on Ace. If you tried to install the ROM manger to your Ace , as a result it will not turn ON again and you already ended up a bricked phone. The only thing to fix it, is by sending it back to the service center nearest you. And then obcourse you will be charge for the fix.

So, Instead of using a ROM Manager, we recommend you to use a CWM Manager. Use Clockworkmod Recovery  for Backups, Flashing .zip, Restoring and whatever the Recovery can manage to do.

Issues with Samsung Kies on Galaxy Ace to update the Firmware
Samsung Kies is an Official software application released by Samsung and use to update the firmware, sync your application and other stuff with the Samsung devices. According to some reports in forums that they used to bricked their Galaxy Ace while using Kies in updating the firmware. The problem is that it will just stuck and suddenly stops responding because of RAM issues. RAM or read only memory on Galaxy Ace does not meet for Kies requirements.

A Viber mini review

I have been using Viber the past few days to see if it will work. Voice calls only really work well on WiFi, even if the WiFi is connected only to a 1 megabit per second (Mbps). The hard thing is finding a VOIP app that works with 3G/HSDPA connections in places where the 3G connection is not all that fast.

Testing from Starbucks, Alabang Town Center, I was able to download a 10 Megabyte (MB) file from the Android Market in about three minutes. Since 10 MBs is 80 megabits, we should be able to download a 10 MB  over a 1Mbps  1 minute and 20 seconds. Slowdowns could also be cause by the server where I downloaded the file. But I do have a decent 3G connection, well by Philippine standards anyway (except when I am in Makati, where my Smart 3G connection is sometimes even faster than the available WiFi connections). 

I tried two calls from the same location on 3G, one from Skype and the other from Viber. The phone I was calling was a Apple iPhone 4 with Skype and Viber installed. The Skype call did not go through. The Viber call went through but got cut after 45 seconds or so, with Viber telling my the data connection was poor. So, better than Skype, but we have not yet found the grail. Still, not hard to see why it is the top trending app in the Android market these days.

Battery usage when on standby seems to be minimal, but it does not show up in Battery Use interface, so I am not sure. But I have not noticed any discrenable change in my battery life the past four days. Still it would be nice to have the option to turn it off, or to connect it to WiFi so it only goes on when on WiFi. They really need to pack larger batteries in our Droids so we stop obsessing about things like this.

The nice part is when you install it, it finds all the people in your address book who use Viber. With over 300 contacts, I only have 5 on Viber. Had a friend download it so we could test it, and he appeared in my contact list right away.

All in all, a very nice Android and iPhone App. I would not mind trading in some voice quality for light network requirements. Between network quality, and few users, it might not be appropriate for some developing countries. An off button would be welcome, so it can just be used for scheduled calls on WiFi. Still, messaging through Viber works fine, even voice calls are a no go, so that it is a fair reason to keep it on even when on 3G.

The perfect Titan

I have not been this excited about a new phone since the release of the HTC Desire HD in 2010. Since seeing the press releases of HTCs new Titan, has me pining for a new device from HTC. The HTC Titan  is far from the perfect next generation device, but it is a good preview of what HTC can do next.

When I was decided on what smartphone to get, I decided on getting the device with the biggest screen I could comfortable carry. While the traditional phone functions of of calls and SMS are still very important, one thing we all will be doing with our cutting edge smartphones is reading. Plenty of reading. From webpages, email, social networking feeds, to documents, newspapers, magazines and comic books, we will do plenty of reading. The best device for this job is the biggest screen your are willing to carry which you can still hold in one hand for quick access to messages and making phone calls.

At that time I took the monster 4.3-inch 123 x 68 x 11.8 mm Desire HD in my hand and it felt comfortable enough, making allowance for the fact that I would put it in a protective case, a OtterBox Commuter. At that time, I thought that was the biggest screen I could handle on a smartphone.  Than comes that 4.7-inch uber monster which is the HTC Titan. The Titan measures in at 131.5 x 70.7 x 9.9 mm. This makes it 2.7mm wider than my Desire HD, but also 1.9 mm thinner.

Now the Titan has a 480 x 800 screen with a 6:10 height versus width ratio. Imagine what its dimensions would be like with a 540 x 960 qHD (quarter HD screen) or higher resolution HD screen. That would have a 9:16 height versus width ratio. A HTC Titan like device with that screen would be just be just about 68 mm wide with an at 9.9 mm thick would be easier on the hand than my current HTC Desire HD.

Give that phone a dual core scorpion processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, the 8MP camera of the Titan, and it HTC could have another go at Samsung class leading Galaxy S II. I suspect we will be seeing the HTC "Titan HD", in a bit, running Ice Cream (Android 4.0).
